RS Tera Sailing at Marco Island Yacht Club

The RS Tera from RS Sailing is the ideal platform for youth sailing. Easy to handle and exciting to sail, with multiple sail options all using the same rig, the RS Tera is a great learn to sail platform that will keep kids engaged. We recently sent a boat down to Marco Island Yacht Club in Florida for sailors to rest drive and for the program to evaluate. We caught up with Sailing Director Caroline Hugo for thoughts on the RS Tera.
As the Sailing Director at the MIYC Youth Sailing Center, I’m always looking for ways to keep our program fresh, fun, and effective for our sailors. We’ve recently had the opportunity to try out the RS Tera, thanks to the support of Zim Sailing, and it’s been a great experience so far.
Our high school team has already taken the boat out, and the feedback has been really positive. The RS Tera is light, responsive, and simple to rig, which makes it easy for sailors to get on the water quickly and focus on sailing. At the same time, it has enough performance that more experienced sailors can really push it and have fun.
What stands out to me is how well it fits into a youth program. It’s stable and forgiving for newer sailors, but still rewards good technique, so it’s a boat they can grow into. The different sail sizes are also a big plus! It gives programs flexibility and makes it easier to match the boat to the sailor.
From what we’ve seen so far, the RS Tera is a really solid option for youth sailing. It’s durable, low-maintenance, and genuinely fun to sail. I think clubs looking to build or update their fleets should definitely take a look—it checks a lot of boxes for both sailors and program directors."
