C420 Rudder Update: July 1, 2022
Zim Sailing is excited to announce a newly redesigned rudder blade for the C420, which sweeps further forward on the boat and creates a more-vertical blade. This is done with a slight notch near the gudgeons, and does change the cross-compatibility of the new rudder blade with other manufacturers (Vanguard, Laser Performance, and PS2000); see below for details.
Production & Availability
- Our original blade will still be produced, and is now referred to by Zim as "V1".
- The new rudder blade will be referred to by Zim as "V2".
- V1 blades will be produced only in white.
- V2 blades will be produced in white and smoke grey.
- New Zim C420s now come with V2 blades.
- Wetted surface area and dimensions are the same on both V1 & V2, except for the notch.
Cross Compatibility
- V1 & V2 blades work on any Zim C420 hull.
- V2 blades do not work on PS2000, Vanguard, or Laser Performance hulls.
Rudder Head
- No change to the Zim rudder head.
- Zim rudder head fits Zim V1 & V2 blades.
- Holes in V1 & V2 are in the same location.
